Cybersyn, the startup I am working on, recently raised a Series A. My comments are encompassed in the announcement blog post on Cybersyn’s website. Snowflake has shared their perspective on the subject as well on their blog. Finally, the event has been well covered in the press1.
I will continue writing this blog focused on the interaction of data, finance, economics, and DaaS. A decision will be made whether insights from the Cybersyn data will be featured here or elsewhere. I would welcome your feedback on that note.
Nonetheless, I felt it appropriate to answer some common questions.
What does Cybersyn do in the simplest terms?
In the simplest terms, we sell data. To do that, we source, clean, transform, and continually deliver data on the Snowflake Marketplace2. Today, we give a lot of data away for free.
What data is next?
We are initially focused on where consumers and businesses are spending money.
Who is working on Cybersyn?
We have an amazing team you can see on our LinkedIn page3. I want to particularly highlight Vassili, Ashley, and Ken who have been with Cybersyn when we were working from my kitchen.
Even more importantly our partners in Snowflake, Coatue, and Sequoia4 work very closely with us, they have been incredible.
What’s with the free data?
As I have written about before5, the adoption of external data at scale is still relatively new. The use of public domain external data sources is a prerequisite. So, we are providing that data on the Snowflake Marketplace.
What’s the relationship with Snowflake?
Snowflake is an investor, as are Coatue and Sequoia. Christian Kleinerman and Mike Scarpelli are on our board as is Coatue’s co-founder, Thomas Laffont. Snowflake is, of course, a strategic partner as well.
Are you hiring?
What is the culture at Cybersyn?
We are early, culture forms with time. Inspired by Ryan Caldbeck’s excellent user manual7, I have written my own manual detailing what it is like to work with me. Several people have validated this for me. Reasonable people can disagree on whether the culture someone like me would create is where they want to work.
If you read Frank Slootman’s Amp It Up8 and are excited by that culture, you will likely enjoy working here.
We are an in-person team. We have an office in New York. We may open offices in the Bay Area in the near future, especially if we hire critical teammates who want to be there.

Congratulations, Alex! I hadn't seen a "what it's like to work with me" doc yet, but was motivated to put one together after reading yours. Best of luck!
